Building regulations, construction and enforcement of the Fire Safety Order
This qualification is aimed at more experienced fire safety officers and other specialists working in complex environments and situations. It covers reviewing fire safety matters and risks associated with fire in buildings that are either planned, being altered or extended .
This applies to those who work in or on, more complex buildings such as shopping centres, multi storey offices, large hotels, residential care homes or hospitals, large industrial units handling dangerous substances and tall blocks of flats over 18m. Complex building can be defined as ones with a complex layout and multiple means of escape or large numbers of people.
An Inspector can undertake building consultations or review work in licensed or regulated premises, undertake audits of simple or complex premises, and they are qualified to initiate formal enforcement action for a breach of fire safety legislation. An inspector may take further formal action and initiate prosecution action, or in the case of internal fire safety specialists, they must know how to interpret the Fire Service letters and actions.
The qualification consists of six mandatory units and a choice of optional units. The learner must complete all of the mandatory units and sufficient optional units to achieve a total of 37 credits. We have selected the two optimal units to achieve the qualification.

Requirements
- Completed or currently working towards the Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety. Employed in a
- fire safety enforcement building control
- facilities management
- consultancy or related regulatory role.
- Access to suitable workplace activities and evidence
- Attendance at all required taught sessions
- Completion of the required assessments
- Demonstration of the knowledge skills and professional behaviours expected of a competent fire safety inspector.
